New Jersey Delegate

Richard Liu

Richard is a former foster youth who is currently working toward making change in the foster care system. “The obligation to my younger self, and the hardships he faced, as well as key role models that I look up to, helped me discover my passion and purpose, to leave the world a better place,” said Richard.

Through his work and participation in the DCF Youth Council as well as National Foster Youth Institute, Richard says he is gaining a better understanding of his education and career goals. He is currently enrolled at Montclair State University as a Psychology major, focused on Pre-law Studies, and will graduate in the spring of 2024. Richard hopes to later attend The University of California, Berkeley to work on his Juris Doctorate Degree focused in Political Science.

Richard is a passionate advocate for foster youth, Asian American representation, environmental justice, and animal welfare. He hopes to one day become an elected representative who can directly impact these issues.

Richard loves to spend his time outdoors and traveling. He also enjoys figure skating and plays the piano. Richard especially loves good food, and frequently cooks family meals with friends.
