Join Our Movement to Revolutionize Child Welfare

Your voice. Your story. Your impact.

Lasting change begins with the people who understand the challenges first-hand — youth who have lived through the foster care system and those who support them. By joining NFYI, you’re becoming part of a movement that’s reshaping child welfare.

NFYI’s programs give current/former foster youth the tools to thrive, lead, and transform their community. Whether you’re a former foster youth looking for leadership development, or an ally ready to take action, we have a place for you. Through our programs, you’ll be equipped with the skills and network you need to make an impact while growing alongside a community of changemakers.
  • Sign up for one of our programs: If you’re a current or former foster youth ready to help drive real, systemic change for foster youth while gaining valuable skills and experience
  • Volunteer with NFYI: Not ready to join a program? Lend your time and talent to local events, outreach, and advocacy efforts.
  • Donate to Our Work: Your donation helps us expand our programs and continue our mission to empower youth and families in the child welfare system.
  • Join the Urgency to Act Campaign: Be part of our three-year drive to draw national attention to six key areas that have the greatest impact on a foster youth’s ability to succeed.

Shadow Day has proven to be a truly enriching experience.

Shadow Day participants are outstanding examples of inner strength, and it is our strong belief that everyone’s worldview would be improved by spending time with foster youth. These individuals exemplify the American values of perseverance and resilience. For members of Congress, having these courageous foster youth joining us as our ‘shadows’ gives us a better perspective and serves as a reminder of the many issues they face.
