Desiree Patterson

Desiree Patterson, a passionate advocate for foster youth, plans to leverage her lived experiences to create change within the foster care system. As a former foster youth, Desiree’s journey has fueled her dedication to reform, making her a prominent figure in advocacy circles. For over a year, Desiree has been an active member of California Youth Connection (CYC). Majoring in Social Work at Sacramento State University for the past three years, Desiree has not only demonstrated academic excellence but has also consistently earned a spot on the Dean’s List for the past two years. Her academic pursuits align with her passion for advocacy, reflecting an inclusive approach to creating positive change. Beyond academia, Desiree has embraced chances to connect with the community. She hosts listening sessions, attends youth summits, creates workshops for members of her community, and uplifts youth voices in spaces where needed. Since relocating to Sacramento, she has actively participated in conversations with senators, advocating for bills. She is also known for making public comments on topics that impact her community. Nonetheless, she makes time to partake in activities she enjoys; advocate by day, and break dancer by night.
