Sponsor NFYI Congressional Leadership Academy - Shadow Day Experience 2023

Lift up foster youth voices by sponsoring this innovative program today!

Since 2012, the National Foster Youth Institute’s (NFYI) Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Day Experience has brought over 900 current and former foster youth (ages 18-30) from across the nation, to Washington, D.C., pairing them with their Congressmembers, whom they shadow for the day. The Shadow Day Experience is part of the 10-month Congressional Leadership Academy.

The Leadership Academy provides increased skill-building with program participants (delegates) and leadership development for the Regional Coordinators who are Shadow Day alumni. The week-long Shadow Day Experience takes place each June and in addition to shadowing Members of Congress, participants attend plenary sessions, a luncheon on the Hill, an awards gala, and cultural tours.

Current and former foster youth connect face-to-face with their representatives and get a behind-the-scenes look at the legislative process. Delegates and Regional Coordinators share their personal stories and experiences in the child welfare system with Congressmembers, reminding them of the real-world impact their work has on children in foster care. Program participants are able to use what they learn to impact communities in their home states.

NFYI relies on generous support from companies, foundations, and individuals to support this life-changing program. Please consider sponsoring current & former foster youth to participate in this unique experience today!
