REP. KAREN BASS ONE OF MANY CONGRESS MEMBERS TO MEET WITH FOSTER YOUTH ON CAPITOL HILL – JUNE 22

For 10th year, foster youth travel to Capitol Hill for annual leadership training, including a special opportunity to shadow members of Congress.

Washington, DC (June 13, 2022) – Current and former foster youth are set to gather in D.C. on June 22 for The National Foster Youth Institute’s (NFYI) 10th annual Congressional Leadership Academy, an innovative leadership program that includes a day of shadowing their members of Congress. The event provides foster youth a unique opportunity to share their stories and insights with elected officials and shadow members of Congress for a day.

While most events are closed to the press and public, we invite press to join us for the special Shadow Day Luncheon on June 22nd.

WHAT: NFYI’S CONGRESSIONAL FOSTER YOUTH SHADOW DAY LUNCHEON
Current and former foster youth come together with members of Congress, public figures, and celebrities (including singer Keyshia Cole and actor Jason Lee) to share lived experiences in the child welfare system and provide insight into the real-world impact of child welfare policies.

Background on NFYI’s Congressional Leadership Academy & Shadow Day Experience

NFYI’s Congressional Leadership Academy is a 10-month program that culminates in an action-packed week-long experience in Washington DC. Our Delegates will tag along with their Members of Congress, attending events and special briefings focused on child welfare issues and joining them in the legislative chambers. Their experience finishes with a luncheon featuring special guest speakers, including Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, actor Jason Lee, musical artist Keyshia Cole [tentative] and with Congresswoman Karen Bass, the founder and co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth.
