New Jersey Delegate

Sandy Harvey

Sandy Harvey is from Monmouth County,  New Jersey and is passionate about using their voice and past experience to promote change in policy that incorporates better ways to support youth’s developmental stages during and after their time in care. They dedicate their time to advocating for change with like minded peers in regard to current legal policy as well as working as a direct support professional. Believing that current mental health practice for aging out youth needs reconstruction, Sandy channels their passion into action through NFYI. She focuses on the effects that trauma has on a young person’s developing brain and how youth can benefit from more interactive support. Outside of the NFYI, they are also involved in New Jersey Department of Children and Family Youth Council. Beyond their advocacy work, Sandy enjoys running, crafting and lives by the motto: “If it costs you your peace of mind it is too expensive.” Through the Congressional Leadership Academy, they hope to gain wisdom, and a thorough understanding of the child welfare policy threshold and apply them to improving the lives of future youth.
