Quijai is a former foster youth who graduated from UC Berkeley with a Major in MCB: Developmental Genetics and Minor in Race and Law.
Quijai’s research in Positive Youth Development helped in the passing of laws AB 227 and AB 1061. As a part of California Youth Connection, Quijai used her experience in research to help empower and assist youth in conducting research on matters relevant to issues in the foster care system. She continues to advocate for child care reform in a myriad of ways.
Quijai has also been central to the development of Black QTs for queer students at UCB, and is a mentor to many, especially in the STEM field. She aspires to obtain a PHD/MD dual degree and is currently working towards returning to school.
The National Foster Youth Institute is a youth development organization that lifts up foster youth voices to transform the child welfare system.
