Tyree Angelique Nelson

California Delegate

Tyree Angelique Nelson is a student at the College of San Mateo and a dedicated advocate for foster youth and young parents. As a former foster youth, she uses her lived experience to push for policies that improve housing access, stability, and opportunities for young people transitioning out of the foster care system.

Tyree is actively involved with California Youth Connections (CYC), a youth-led advocacy organization where current and former foster youth work to improve the foster care system through legislation and community engagement. Through this work, she participates in policy discussions with lawmakers and helps advocate for legislation that supports youth in extended foster care and improves access to housing and resources.

In addition to her advocacy work, Tyree is pursuing an associate in psychology with a minor in interdisciplinary studies and social sciences while raising her young son. Her experiences navigating housing instability, education, and parenting have shaped her passion for social justice and systems change. She is particularly interested in policies related to housing affordability, youth support services, and equitable access to education.

Tyree is committed to continuing her leadership and advocacy work to ensure that young people with lived experience in foster care are heard, represented, and supported.
