Samantha Hallinan, and I’m 28 years old. Life has thrown its fair share of challenges at me, but I’ve never let them define me. I’m a single mom, juggling a full-time job, full-time student working on my MSW, and an intern with the National Foster Youth Institute. Growing up in the foster care system wasn’t easy, but it’s shaped me into the strong and resilient person I am today.

At 21, I aged out of the foster care system, after I graduated with my bachelor’s in 2022. I decided to move from California to Las Vegas, seeking new opportunities and a fresh start. It wasn’t easy leaving behind everything I knew, but I knew I had to do what was best for myself.

Being a single mother means my child is my top priority. Every day, I work hard to provide for her and create a stable environment despite the challenges I face. But I’m not just focused on the present – I’m also dedicated to building a better future for us both.
That’s why I’m pursuing my education while working and interning. I know that by investing in myself, I’m investing in our future. My internship with the National Foster Youth Institute is especially meaningful to me. It’s a way for me to give back and advocate for others who have been through similar experiences.

My journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s made me who I am today. I’m determined, resilient, and passionate about making a difference. And no matter what obstacles come my way, I’ll keep pushing forward, because I know that better days are ahead.
