Nyamekye is from Brooklyn, N.Y. The 30-year-old started her advocacy journey in 2018. From her experience as an NFYI Congressional Foster Youth Delegate, she hopes to acquire more knowledge about policy, from policy makers. She hopes this will grow her knowledge about how youth in foster care and alumni are impacted by the policies made and about the insight that goes into policy making on the federal level. Nyamekye also hopes to learn how advocates like herself can help to affect policy change in a positive way for the foster care community. When not advocating, one of her favorite pastimes is attending concerts. A quote that Nyamekye feels connected to is “sometimes it’s not the people who change, it’s the mask that falls off.”
The National Foster Youth Institute is a youth development organization that lifts up foster youth voices to transform the child welfare system.
