Thirty-seven students crossed the Broward College Performing and Cultural Arts Center stage, recently. For some, it was to signify a high school graduation, for others, conquering fourth-grade long division, but for all it was to celebrate an accomplishment. Children’s Harbor — a Pembroke Pines-based family group home — hosted its 5th Annual Academic Achievement Awards, honoring children in foster care’s academic achievements. The cap and gown ceremony highlighted the student’s small and large victories over the year, giving them certificates or diplomas, a Keynote presentation and a music performance by Plantation-based singer Alexander Star.”Our Academic Achievement Awards event is such a special time as we highlight the outstanding children of Children’s Harbor,” Children’s Harbor Chief Operating Officer Tiffani Dhooge said. “We are so proud of all of their accomplishments and can’t thank our community partners, board members and donors enough for their incredible support in helping our kids reach their potential.”
