Florida Delegate

Florencia Valenzuela

Florencia Valenzuela was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She is passionate about advocating for guaranteed income programs for former foster youth and bringing awareness to the harmful impacts Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards have on the success of foster youth completing their post-secondary education. Currently, she dedicates her time to completing her undergrad at UCLA majoring in Sociology and minoring in Chicanx & Central American Studies.

She believes that challenging traditional structures is needed in order to find true solutions that will end the continuous failure of systems that are meant to serve the people. Florencia channels her passion into action through NFYI, focusing on the educational barriers foster youth encounter during their post-secondary education journeys. Outside of NFYI, Florencia is an inaugural member of the Los Angeles County Youth Commission – appointed by Supervisor Hilda L. Solis and represents the First District.

Beyond her advocacy work, Florencia enjoys thrifting with her brother and trying new boba spots. She values the little things in life and appreciates her journey to get to where she is today. Through the Congressional Leadership Academy, she hopes to strengthen her understanding of the federal legislation process and in return – will become a stronger leader and advocate.
