Michigan Delegate

Adol Bak

I am Adol Bak, a proud Michigander with a deep commitment to advocating for youth rights, particularly for those in the foster care system and marginalized communities. As a first-generation college graduate, an orphan, an immigrant, and a former foster youth, my life has been a testament to resilience and determination. I graduated from Western Michigan University with a double major in Global and International Studies and Public Nonprofit Administration, and I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Policy at the University of Michigan, with aspirations to attend law school specializing in international law.

My belief that “I was born to make change happen” drives my work with the National Foster Youth Institute (NFYI), where I speak out about the challenges faced by young people in foster care. My advocacy has been recognized with several accolades, including the Penny Bundy Leadership Award and participation in the Circle of Change Leadership Conference.

In addition to my work with NFYI, I founded the HalNur Foundation, named in honor of my mother, Halima. This nonprofit supports impoverished young girls and those affected by early childhood marriages, allowing me to honor my mother’s legacy through education and empowerment.

My experiences have taken me from engaging with Michigan’s leaders, including Governor Gretchen Whitmer, to advocating against early childhood marriages in the Dominican Republic. As a member of the Change the World Model United Nations, I have participated in global forums, including events at the United Nations headquarters.

Driven by a belief in the transformative power of education, I live by Nelson Mandela’s words: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” My unwavering commitment is to ensure that every child can thrive and contribute meaningfully o society.
