Nii-Quartelai Quartey serves as the National Strategic Partnerships Manager for the “Voices for Healthy Kids” initiative, a new collaboration between the American Heart Association and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to reverse the child obesity epidemic and build healthier communities across America through state and local public policy campaigns.
He began his activism at the age of 13 as a student organizer for Oprah Winfrey’s Angel Network campaign in partnership with Boys and Girls Club of America. This experience, which gave him national exposure on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” sparked the beginning of what has become a purposeful career as an advocate and changemaker.
To date, two of his proudest political accomplishments include: Serving as an Official California Surrogate for the Barack Obama Re-Election Campaign, and scoring an 86% community win as lead campaign consultant for a $90 million school bond campaign to improve school facilities in Inglewood – all in the same election cycle.
To further his personal mission of building a more safe, just, equitable, and sustainable society for all, he currently serves on the National Foster Youth Institute Board of Directors with Congresswoman Karen Bass, has informed over $3 million in grantmaking as a Liberty Hill Foundation Community Funding Board Member, served with distinction as Board President of the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, and was recently selected as a Truman National Security Fellowship Political Partner and Democratic National Committee LGBT Advisory Board Member.
Nii-Quartelai has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with a Minor Degree in Critical Approaches to Leadership from the University of Southern California, a Master of Arts Degree in Social Entrepreneurship & Change from Pepperdine University, and plans to complete his Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership, also at Pepperdine University, in 2017. To date he has guest-lectured at Columbia University, Pepperdine University, and the University of Southern California.
